November Garden Committee Update
It’s been a full day of gardening. @ADub (Arnold) and @Bob spent all morning and part of the afternoon draining all the irrigation lines in the garden, orchard, Mini-B, and all the parking lot beds to prevent the lines from freezing this winter.
@Leann Rayfuse and @Stitch (Linda Avis) harvested all of the ground cherries, green tomatoes, and some cilantro and parsley. There are lots of ground cherries on Leann’s deck and some green tomatoes on mine, so please come get some. You can bring them inside to a sunny window and they will ripen.
Leann and Linda also removed all spent plants from the garden beds, and the three of us removed a sturdy bamboo trellis that the big wind a couple of weeks ago knocked over onto the new garlic bed. I also dug up six volunteer comfrey plants that were growing among the utility covers between units 10 & 11 and transplanted them between some of the blueberry bushes north of the garden.
Finally, after many weeks of trying to coordinate schedules, @Angie and @Beryl and the three of us drove to a Woodinville former horse farm owned by a friend of Angie’s, who used her tractor to load 1-1/2 to 2 yards of well-composted horse manure into Beryl’s truck. (Thank you for driving and for the use of your truck, Beryl!) When we got back, @Pam joined us to shovel out the manure into a tidy pile and help with cleaning out the truck bed. The garden plants will be so happy next season!
